Day 2: Belly Bandit

Push-ups, I have read, are one of the best exercises for your entire body.

I really need to get into some exercise to tone my stomach.  I tried the Belly Bandit (aka, postpartum girdle!) to shrink my stomach as soon as I had Alex…I don’t know how other women wear this for days on end; but after a few days I decided I am a much better candidate for just losing the weight the old fashioned way.  This elastic girdle, which is supposed to shrink your stomach, may have helped reduce the after-shock uterus contractions – but is a VERY far cry from its advertisement (“comfortable”) and no matter how I put it on, within a couple hours, the elastic is wrinkled and bunched up.

So…back to push-ups.  I decided a good start would be to do ten since I was able to do a few sets of ten before I even got pregnant (wow, that was a while ago).  Well, I know that “starting” is the most important part here.  Sadly, I have to admit, I barley did five – when I felt like I was literally going to suffer a heart attack!  I got out of breath, had no strength and my heart was racing.  Well…this is the beginning of my weight loss journey.  This time around, losing the baby weight looks like a harder task!  Here I go…

Day 1: I Gained 30 lbs for The Pregnancy

alex-monica

My daughter, Alexandra (Alex) was born about six weeks ago.  Today is the day that I can officially start exercising and

get into shape (once again).  I gained 30 lbs for the pregnancy – same as my first.  The labor was SO MUCH easier this time around!  But as for having two kids (Mia is 2 ½ years old), this a huge change!  It is not like I went from having one child to two…it is more like I went from one to ten!  If Alex isn’t crying and needing something, Mia is begging for me to play a game with her – and in the last couple of weeks, we have noticed a transformation from my sweet little “helper” to the Tasmanian Devil (whereever she goes, you would think it got hit by a tornado!!)….then she comes to me and says, “Mom, do you want some help cleaning this up?”…heh – smart little girl!

I always thought I had a lot of respect for mothers, especially when I became one myself.  Well, that respect has turned into utter awe!  I seriously do not know how my sisters juggle everything with three kids each.   I have gotten so used to being at the office – and that job is a piece of cake (!) in comparison to my new Calling (and one I have to admit, I am resisting a bit) – that of a great “stay at home mom.”  It is something I hear many women covet…”a chance to stay home all day with their kids”…but this kind of work (or reward as some say) doesn’t end at 5:00PM…in fact, it never ends.  My days are filled with, “I’m hungry”, “when are we going to the playground”, “I don’t want to eat that”, “I’m NOT tired”, “can you hold me like a baby mom?”, crying…nursing…more crying…more nursing….well it’s about 8PM now and I am ready for bed.  Good night.
